Hiatus

Hiatus

So, I’ve been trying to grapple with how to proceed here. This is getting posted to the comic itself, so it’ll appear when going to “newest page.” Assessing it, I really need to take a break.

I’ve hit a point of massive writer’s block. I know what I want to happen next, but I have no idea how to get there. What’s next story-wise is also kinda big so I have a lot planned for it, but the spot right now is clunky for me, at best.

I’ve also hit a form of deep-rooted burnout, not the obvious kind that can be solved with just a week off. So, in the interest of actually keeping things moving, I paradoxically need to put the comic updates on a hiatus for a bit.

I don’t know when things will come back, but I’ll be using the time to get some very much-needed tools prepared. (E.g., I’ve been finally getting back to working on 3D stuff, which I plan to use to assist my backgrounds. My backgrounds are one of my biggest weaknesses in art, and they’ve never matched the theme I wanted for this comic.) I’ll also be using the time to work on something huge for the next phase.

In the meantime, I have a Discord server, with a channel dedicated to the webcomic. It’s otherwise art and game oriented. If you’d like to join, click this link. Please observe the rules.

Additionally, if you want to subscribe to email announcements so you’ll be notified when the comic returns, I have a mailing list that notifies you on an update. You can sign up here:

  9. auroki says:

Take as much time as you need dude! I ain’t gonna complain over something I’ve been getting for free so far.

But yeah, writers block is the worst mental blockage. Feels like it takes forever to get over sometimes. (Assuming you’re one of the ones that does.)

So take it easy, grab a drink, practice some necktie knots or whatever and come back when ya think ya got this

I always look forward to your comic; It’s one of my favorite things and I’m gonna be checking back every day for it. Or maybe check the discord too; Probably both.
    definitely both.

  11. Namaco says:

So season one is over then ^^

  12. Doc says:

Ah, good ol’ writer’s block! You have a scene in your head, but you feel compelled to set it up, make sure the conflict makes sense – but that set up isn’t quite as interesting, while still taking time and effort to get there, and can even feel forced. This is especially true of comics, where it takes significant effort for something that can be read so quickly.

Ever thought of going in a completely different direction? Call the work you’ve already done on your would-be moment as ‘bonus content’, something that could have been, while you ponder a new direction?

It can feel constrictive to chase that one great moment, but it does not have to be the only one.

Whatever you choose, we appreciate your work, so thank you.

Take a break, ya mad man. An actual break with martini glasses and shite. Destress. Relax.

  18. Vozw says:

Take as much time as you want. The paradoxical hiatus-to-keep-things-rolling-in-the-long-run is well understood; get some rest ^^

  19. Daybreaker7 says:

No worries, you are an amazing artist and I’m sure it’ll be ok, get good rest. 🙂

  20. Triforce of Doom says:

Burnout/writer’s block always sucks when it happens but that’s what breaks are for. Looking forward to when the next update happens once you’re up for it.

  21. TorchicEX says:

From personally being in this position recently, I know about what you mean. Just take the time you need, I spent my time playing other games and watching videos/animations then when I came back to it I got the answer I was looking for. Just for me it was about a D&D campaign idea and not a story in this way. Enjoy your break, we will be here and in your discord.

  22. ThatEntityGirl says:

Yeah considering how slow updates have been I figured something was going on. I wish you well

  23. Judeo says:

To my understanding, burnouts are signs that a mind hasn’t been doing some well deserved self-reflection.

So, you may need to do some self-reflection on the things happening around you, Zed. And find the path you think is best for you.

Here, have some of your characters attempting to comfort you…just in case.

Collet: “Don’t worry, Mr. Zed, sir. We’ll be fine. You just go and rest, okay?”

Gladys: “Maybe you should talk to your family like I did with mine. I feel like times like these are what families are for.”

Socket: “I’m not sure what “self-reflection” means. Is that like self-diagnostic systems androids have? Maybe you should see someone who might know better!”

Pivot: “I’m not exactly cut out to be a comforting friend…but I can always start trying.”

Pivot: “Hang in there, pal. It’s okay if things don’t turn out the way you want them to. You can’t change the past…but you can choose your future.”

Pivot: “Whatever it is you decide…I’m with you until the end.”

No worries. I genuinely enjoy the story you’re telling, but not at the expense of your well-being. Take your time and be well.

    1. SF-05 says:

As a writer myself I can assure you that you are far better than me. I’d never admit to something like this. Take all the time you need, we love you. 🙂

      1. SF-05 says:

Also I adore the Mini Pivot. So cute.

        1. Daybreaker7 says:

I know i’d by merch of a Pivot Plushie or a Wind-Up Pivot toy. 🙂

  26. Didimmick says:

I’ve had the same thing happen to me before, it’ll get better, promise!
Just make sure you don’t pressure yourself to carry on, that’s the worst thing you can do 🙂

  27. Transformer418 says:

Happens to the best of us

  28. Cfox says:

    It happens, get well friend.
