Poor Socket.
Although… all things considered it did end well for her. In a way. Purpose behind her creation might be… questionable. But her creator at least had enough conscience to care for her, and eventually set her free to let her live as she would see fit. It could end worse.
That’s rough. But as someone that knows something about having a past you’re not proud of, maybe you can reassure her that what matters is who she is now and what she wants to do.
“I just wanted to forget that the only reason I exist was so I could be a love interest.” Wow… That’s a powerful line. And not to take away from the story or the emotions portrayed, but isn’t that getting a bit meta too?
It is implied the personality cores are essentially a person’s entire mental state copied to a computer, so it could just be a core based on a closeted individual. Either way, this comic is going to cover the moral and logistical aspects of the cores in the near-ish future anyway, so we may get a canonical answer soon.
I wonder if whoever created Socket thought “If you really love someone, you have to let her go.” before he vanished. Maybe he was thinking about how her feelings, rather then his own at that time…still, I feel bad for poor Socket and whoever made her…but at least Socket living her own life…her own way…and not by her code.

I’ve started to wonder what personality cores look like, especially after hearing them being mentioned a few times in this comic.
How did he not know the personality core would be gay? Was it because he got from some shady source or something?

*Likely going to cover the moral and logical aspects

LOL, wasn’t she created to be a love interest (like, by the author in the real world)?
I can’t remember when she was introduced into the story.
Not sure if it’s possible…but will we ever meet Socket’s creator one day in the series?
