You little shit you better not be thinking what I think you’re thinking!

Okay, I have a theory. Pivot IS a robot! Like seriously! All evidence points to it! Like her hair, for example. It always stays the same. BECAUSE OF HAIR MODIFIERS. And her eyes! That is not a natural pigment of the eye (socket). Furthermore, her FRIENDS are robots, too! That is an unholy amount of breast skin for Socket! Like, holy hell! My peers call me crazy because I humped a [REDACTED]. But when they come here to beat their meat, they will see this theory and grovel at my feet. But really, the theory HAS to be true! There is no way but 0.000000000000000000000001% that I am wrong! Take THAT, Zed-Bot!

I get the feeling that we’re about to see something similar to zedrin’s newest youtube thumbnail.

On the note of possible EMP weapons, it’s entirely possible to EMP harden wires and various components using layers of insulation alternating with copper wrapping, farraday cages with airgaps held together with non-conductive materials, rubberized layers built into the frame, and compartmentalization via fuses/breakers/some diodes between core systems and more vulnerable systems such as certain sensory and communication arrays. Many machines expected to operate effectively in areas with high electrical currents or generally high background radiation will have features like this and if someone built pivot to keep her “safe” as was mentioned as an included intention a few chapters back, hardening at least her core systems would likely have been considered.

I doubt anything short of a powerplant hot wiring directly through her would take her out permanently assuming they took the extra care to go overboard on the protection a normal comms bot would need in a high signal interference environment. Perhaps that’s why her comms were a bit sub par for her model a while back, they are trying to run through safemode/damaged comms systems after an EMP.

That said, it probably would take a bit less to cause a fault and trigger a system reboot at an inopportune time.

    1. Judeo says:

Ah, you must be pertaining to the pink-haired Pivot with the Breaker.AMP active.

As for Pivot’s schematics, I highly doubt Piper’s mom had added EMP countermeasures.

One: Faraday cages are impractical for robots as it can greatly diminish their degree of freedom and would make them significantly heavier and bulkier than intended.
Two: Comms model androids do not have that protection since they don’t necessarily come in hazard’s range of EMPs on a daily basis.
Three: Pivot was knocked out due to an EMP, so that’s proof that she doesn’t have protection against it.
Four: The first unit (PV-01) or “Piper” died due to her shorting herself to a high voltage component. This means Pivot can suffer the same fate.
Five: Comms model androids have interchangeable receivers (shown during Pivot x Socket date). Pivot’s comms were locally jammed during the robot incident. Then, she had low-quality receivers during the date.

      Sauce: An aspiring mechanical engineer.

Ah sh!t, here we go again.

?????: Actually, there was something I wanted to ask you.
    Socket: …
    ?????: What’s your name?
    Socket: Socket.
?????: Socket, my dear. Would you like to be part of my little project I’m working on?
Socket: I…don’t take offers during work hours.
?????: Well, how about on your day off? Do you mind sharing your work e-mail so I can send my offer there?
    Socket: …
    ?????: Don’t worry, I don’t bite because I’m not a Dagonian.
    ???: Ha ha, very funny.

  12. Anguis Tenebris says:

Hmm…. Electromagnetic pulses would be capable of knocking out electronics in a certain range. Likely they are going to shut down the entire city. But I am more interested in something else. If they were testing a smaller prototype, they would need a small remote location to test it.

Remember in the beginning of the series, Pivot randomly got knocked out and her Comms were disabled. Not to mention fragmented memories. Could it be Pivot was in the area where they were testing the weapon?

Furthermore, we saw the Pivot prototype there. These people could be the same people who created Pivot. Or at least affiliated with them since they were given access to the old labs.

    1. Jeffrey Strahm says:

Good idea! I would say probably.

    2. glitterboy2098 says:

EMP’s could also conceivably kill robots (as in, destroy their minds/memories/software) if the pulses were strong enough.

    3. Judeo says:

The EMP back then was enabled as a defense mechanism from when Pivot turned on the plant. The plant was illegally operating at the time before the IFS shut it down. This means that such countermeasures are deemed illegal. EMPs of that magnitude are downright dangerous to unsuspecting sentient machines like androids.
The way I see it, someone is selling EMPs to disable defense systems like Vigilance operatives (which mostly comprise of androids) so that they can do whatever they want. Here’s my assumption:
The Dagonian in question intends to buy this EMP bomb and use it to further their agenda about Kaiju attacks and their supposed “control” over it. The dude selling it wants the Dagonian to use it so he can further his own agenda (most likely to get more control or leverage in politics) while the city is in chaos.
Everybody wins…unless some comms model android happens to stop that.

Hold on, the red tux and robotic hand looks like it belongs to TT-A1, AKA TickTock. An old yet cool commission Zedrin drew for someone named MeisterChaos.
