So, Dr. Blaustein… He’s supposed to be an allusion to an old Dexter Boy Genius, right?

  2. JustSomeIdiot says:

Pivot should spent more time with Socket more.

    Thats the plan, isn’t it?

Then they’re gonna be on a cute date, and gets attacked, ruining the date. ._.

“wHeeN YOu gOOn mAKe HIRO free??????¿”
Me an intellectual & man of culture:
“When are you gonna make another animation of Pivot and, let her have more dialog in one? And speaking of “speaking”, when are you gonna give Socket a voice? ……. And yes, even though her main interest is girls, I’m well aware any voice she’s given will likely be so loveable, it will likely cause the deaths of 10,000 men…”

    Socket: Why not?
    Dr. Blaustein: My thoughts exactly!
Dr. Blaustein: I vould have expected you to have taken ze offer already!
    Pivot: I just…I dunno…
Pivot: It feels like it’s happening a little too fast.
Dr. Blaustein: Opportunity moves at its own pace, my dear. But it is good that you didn’t accept it by impulse.
Pivot: …I can’t tell if you’re complimenting me or lecturing me.
Dr. Blaustein: Both. I know that you want to weigh in your options before you make a decision because you feel that this offer can potentially change your life forever.

Pivot and Socket stare at each other

Dr. Blaustein: …In my case, I chose to accept the offer to work for Vigilance. Now here I am, talking to you and your friend!

Pivot: Uhh, thanks for the suggestion…I guess.
Dr. Blaustein: Yes, yes. Now, off you two go! I have to prepare ze laboratory for other units.

Pivot and Socket leave the lab

    Pivot: Hmm…
Socket: Umm, I guess I’ll be going home now.
    Pivot: Oh, uhh, sure.
    Pivot: …Socket, wait!
    Socket: Hm?
Pivot: I have a lot of time for the day. Do you mind if I go to your house too?
    Socket: H-huh?!(EEEEEEEEOMGOMGOMGOMG)

Looking at where this comic is going, I wonder if Zedrin is going to touch on what makes a person who they are. Pivot’s whole backstory is that she was supposed to be Piper, but when Piper’s consciousness was transferred into PV-01, she said the body didn’t feel right, that she knew what it was like to die, Hivewell had a different experience, but his body was still abandoned. One has to ask if Piper in PV-01 is still piper and was Hivewell still himself, or were they just copies of those humans minds into other forms, in other words, was PV-01 Piper, or a robot with the same memories and personality.
Because Socket is now backed up, it implies that there is a copy of her mind, essentially a clone, so that should her current body or mind be destroyed, Socket still exists, but you have to ask whether the clone is a continuation of Sockets life, or a totally new person.
Personally, I think this would be a really cool to explore with these characters, especially should Socket’s backup be needed because Pivot is in a unique situation of, for all intents and purposes, being Piper, minus the memories. She has the personality core and its implied in Logs 12 and 13 that the doctor did at least a partial second transfer into PV-02, AKA Pivot and I think this is why she hasn’t looked into Piper yet, she’s afraid of the existential questions it would create. If Socket dies and the backup is used, we would have one character questioning if they really are who they are or just a replacement and another who is currently dealing with the same questions but without the burden of memories.

    1. Judeo says:

Your comment about the nature of human consciousness reminded me of the game called “SOMA”, a sci-fi horror game asking these very questions of what it means to be. Though the game never really answered the question, it did tackle a lot of perspectives regarding it.

To this, I say: “Just don’t think about it.” This is because of several more important questions appearing that are relevant to the existential questions asked.
If you know the answer, does it change the status of your life? No.
Will getting an answer give you an edge when it comes to survival? No.
Any information gained from pursuing these lines of questions is useless.
What does matter is that the ‘you’ you currently exist in is as real for you as it can be. Any other ‘yous’ that would exist outside of your perception of you isn’t you. They’re simply others who look, think and act like you.

  20. Anonymous says:

I’m so happy that the new page is up! This is literally the only webcomic that I follow in a consistent manner

  21. Reksew_Trebla says:

Is Socket gonna question who “Piper” is, or why Pivot hasn’t told her about that yet? Really hope Socket doesn’t get upset over that, especially since she was willing to share her backstory with Pivot, despite the hangups thinking about it gives her.

    1. Anon E. Moose says:

Wasn’t Socket kinda sorta a fan of Piper? Or at least her music?

      1. Reksew_Trebla says:

Yeah, but I don’t think she drew the connection between the two, plus, it’s not like there is only one human named Piper.

        1. Anon E. Moose says:

Not that I’m saying that she did, I don’t think she has either, I’m just saying I’d see her more either fangirl squeeing at finding out her girlfriend has Piper’s imprint or more sad that Piper’s gone. Or a combination of the two.

          1. Anonymous says:

she almost did make a connection by accident, at the karaoke machine. socket makes pivot sing a song that she thought “fits her” then afterwards tries to tell pivot that she sounded exactly like piper, although pivot accidently spoke over her after receiving the message of the kaiju
