105 – First Memory

This concludes the memory recovery protocol. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Loooong update. Physically. I could’ve done this as two separate ones but it would’ve been a lot of dead space.

Lotta edge too. Woo!

Finally done with this arc! But the chapter’s still not over yet!

So… basically Dr. Hivewell jacked into her mind a second time, after the A.M.P. was installed. She fought him to the best of her ability, but she could tell she was losing and so she attached the transformer to her system and fried herself.

And yet, for some reason, I can’t help but feel that Hivewell *meant* well. It’s just that in his new form and his already lacking morals, he cannot differentiate between “efficiency” and “morality.” There’s no more boundaries for him, which is both exciting and terrifying to think about.

    1. Cthulhu says:

It’s that old adage, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Though I guess he was already on his way there, he just needed a final push.

  2. Beastwolf says:

Yeaaaah. If anyone started talking in my head and I couldn’t tune them out, one of us would have to Go.

  3. Frosty says:

Who else had a felling that highwell was after all this piper sucide thing oh and who else thinks that highwell was after the robot atack
Sins they can’t wistand like that mind controling
Thing of highwell ha imagine if highwell is acctualy triying to help piper in her state of felling empty or just triying to test her state don’t now sorry for ze bad grammar remeber this is just a theorie a comic theorie

  4. Waluiida says:

Oh, boy. Me thinks, that the defenses Piper’s mother installed, (if my memory serves me correctly) according to the recovered files were not enough to repel Hivewell. This memory being his second attempt on her cognitive state, as well the result. Let us hope Piper’s mother installed stronger defenses in Pivot. Of course let us be thankful that no one was standing above Pivot at the moment of her awakening.

    1. Daybreaker7 says:

I don’t remember much of the previous comic…but I remember that the origin of Pivot (Piper) was that she was near dead but kept alive thanks to her mother and fathers science work…but H.I.V.E.M.I.N.D (Dr.Hivewell) did something to ruin the first model (The husk that was probably PV01) but what little remained of her was somehow remade into the second model through her personalty turning into AI…but what I remember was foggy so I don’t exactly recall the entire bio…I could be wrong.

  5. Ichiga says:

I’m finding that PV02 is the first successful full prosthetic or perfect copy of an organism. If the former, it wouldn’t explain the memory loss. If the latter, then yeah. Entire memories could be erased and time of activation would have a larger weight to it than post surgery.

  6. Knightshade86 says:

After careful analysis I would like to make two observations, pipers slightly larger bust and the dress she is wearing being similar to the one that pivot admired and socket bought for her

  7. Cinex says:

So, that wasn’t just a simple suicide. And Hivewell’s still out there. Get your shit together, Piv.

  8. Judeo says:

If Pivot had tear glands and a respiratory system, she would be crying and breathing really fast.
Heck, if she had an organic heart, she’d be palpitating.

But she doesn’t and today’s a new day!

If commands were still a thing (but it’s not, I know):
    >Pivot. Dear. You have GOT to get back to that facility.
    >Also, don’t tell Socket.

    ———-
    Gladys: “Good morning, Pivot!”
Gladys: “You look tired. Are you okay?”
Pivot: “Oh, it’s nothing. Just had a bad dream.”
    Gladys: “Oh. Okay.”
Gladys: “Wait- Do androids dream in slo-mo?”
Pivot: *face that says are you really asking me this?*
Gladys: “I thought cuz they can feel pain in slo-mo and with great intensity, right?”
Pivot: *face that says are you really bringing this up now?*

  9. tanner says:

Agh! I just binged this and now I’ve hit the wall and want to know what happened and what part of time this was in! Was the date in the past? Was the factory just a memory too? Where does all this line up!

    1. Anonymous says:

The factory is where the story starts.
There were a few memories shortly before that–she was hit with an EMP that erased / damaged most memories from the past few days.

At activation she was interrogated and had her memory reset immediately after.

Then prior to that there appear to be memories from Piper, from years before Pivot was even activated.

  10. robnot says:

ok,, looks to me that the ‘Piper” core, was a ROM memory.. which means even without power (or EMP) will still have the program.. BUT is only accessible on cold start. ..ROM is not a memory that can be read , like a hard drive or RAM. (unless you a special reader.) and would be a good safe place to “hide” a delicate program.. an would not show on a typical memory read..
also only way to remove ROM is to remove the chips (because the program is actually written/etched on the chip..) and i mean a PROM, not a EPROM, OR EEPROM, which of the later, are basically the new solid state hard drive..

  11. ThatEntityPerson says:

The personality core Pivot picked up was Piper’s core. I guess this means that Piper is now a part of Pivot in a way.

    1. ThatEntityPerson says:

Especially considering how Pivot even acted out the memory with her body in her sleep. It’s very clear that she was experiencing the memory as if she had experienced it before, with all of her emotions from the moment coming back to her and filling her mind.

  12. Stone says:

Oh dear… is that red… face thing, that evil scientist that “back then” penetrated into PV’s poor mind? If I recall correctly, one of the logs PV recovered from the facility mentioned something like that.

How curious to see name “Piper” being said too. I mean, it makes sense too, perhaps back then there was more to it than there is now.

    1. Renadt says:

It was stated in the files that the first PV-01 was indeed Piper herself in the body. Her mother then decided to let her rest and allowed the other body, PV-02, to remain a blank state. Although that no longer seems to be the case.

  13. Anonymous says:

    Was that…H.I.V.E.M.I.N.D?

    1. Stone says:

Now that you mention it… that face is reminiscent of SHODAN from System Shock a bit.

      1. Anonymous says:

I remember that H.I.V.E.M.I.N.D was one of the antagonists that were shown before this comic “rebooted” He was one of the announced antagonists alongside Emre…I think, it was a while since I last saw those posts.

  14. Knightshade86 says:

oh yea that is not creepy at all (please note sarcasm)

    1. Stone says:

Your sarcasm have been noted, sir Knight.
      Good on ya!

  15. RATTAN23 says:

Daaaaaaaamn, this is getting VERY interesting…
